Jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, and tap classes are available for ages 3 and up. Fall classes start with technique and then a dance is taught, which is performed at the Christmas Recital in December. Starting in February, students are taught a different routine that is performed at our big recital in June. The type of dance that is performed is chosen by Mrs. Justine along with the song selection for that class.
There is a yearly registration fee of $15.00 for each student. Each student is required to read Eatonville Dance Center ’s rules and regulations and complete a yearly registration form online (click on Register for Classes).
Classes begin in September and conclude with the Summer Recital in June. The studio will be closed for the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas break, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Eatonville Dance Studio will be scheduled to conduct classes on all other holidays. If you are unsure about class cancellations, please call the studio. Classes will not be made up for inclement weather unless the same class has missed two or more weeks due to inclement weather. Each student deserves 100% attention for the class he/she is enrolled in. Therefore, we CANNOT make-up lessons that are missed. It is unfair for students in the class to be consistently interrupted by others coming in to make-up a lesson. We value your time and insist our students’ time with instructors is valued as well.
Newsletter come out periodically explaining upcoming events, dance news, and activities. It is important to read these thoroughly, as these always give important dates and other information concerning your student.
RESPONSIBILITY TO BE AWARE OF, DATES, AND EVENTS
It is the responsibility of the parent to be aware of all studio activities, such as recitals, extra classes, and dates the studio is open or closed. The studio will post all such notices on the lobby bulletin board as well as our website. It is the parent's responsibility to regularly check these boards to ensure they are informed. It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the studio of any address or telephone number change.
PICTURES AND DRESS REHEARSAL ARE MANDITORY!
June we will be taking group pictures and having dress rehersal. Missing one of these will result in your child being unable to perform in recital unless previously approved by Mrs. Justine. Your child MUST come to pictures, even if you are not ordering any.
A parent is required to attend the dance class when Mrs. Justine goes over putting on makeup, as each child is required to be in full stage makeup for the dress rehearsal as well as recital. There will be more to come on this in a future newsletter. Please be aware that there is also a cost to get into the recital. This money goes to pay for the theater where the recital is held as well as sound, lighting, janitorial and videographer fees. The exact dollar amount of tickets will be in a future newsletter.
Students are expected to dress appropriately for each class in the proper leotard, tights and shoes with their hair securely fastened back from their face and no excessive jewelry. Students not wearing the proper attire for more than two weeks will not be allowed to participate in class unless the instructor has been notified of special circumstances. The studio is not responsible for any jewelry left at the studio. Level 4 dancers are required to come to every class in the appropriate clothing or they will not be allowed to participate in class. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
Ballet - Students wear leotard and tights and pink ballet shoes and girls should have their hair in a ponytail or bun.
Jazz - Students wear leotard and tights and black jazz shoes (jazz pants acceptable). Girls should have their hair in a ponytail.
Tap - Students wear leotard and tights and black tap shoes (jazz pants acceptable). Girls should have their hair in a ponytail.
Hip-Hop - Students wear comfortable baggy clothes and jazz shoes or tennis shoes. Jeans and dark soled shoes are not allowed.
Parents are allowed to sit in the waiting room while their student dances. To limit distractions, the blinds to the dance studio are open the first week of each month only. Parents will also be invited in the last 15 min. of classes when choreography is being taught so parents can record the dance. This will help them practice at home.
WHAT IS EXPECTED
As with any sport activity, commitment is essential. From September through December students learn technical aspects to improve dance abilities. Eatonville Dance Center is committed to teaching dance. We want students who are dedicated to learning! Being committed to practice, showing up on time, having a good attitude, and parent support will make your experience at Eatonville Dance Center a success!
Please keep conversation in the lobby positive and up-beat. Negativity is not appreciated, nor tolerated. Only water is allowed to be brought onto the dance studio. Do not bring food into the studio room.
Proper respect for the directors, staff, and fellow students is expected of all students and parents. The studio reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student whose attitude, attendance or conduct is found to be unsatisfactory. All classes begin with a very important warm-up and stretch. During the first half of the year emphasis is on technique. The latter half is spent preparing a routine for the annual recital. This routine utilizes the technique taught during the year. Regular attendance is necessary in order to make progress in class. If your child is going to be absent, we ask that you call the studio and let us know.
The studio reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If a teacher is ill and the studio cannot arrange a substitute any missed classes will be made-up.
Parents, legal guardians of minor students and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on studio property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity conducted by the student before, during or after class time.
The studio is hereby granted permission to take photographs of the students to use in brochures, websites, posters, advertisements, and other promotional materials the studio creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the studio to copyright such photographs in its name.
Volunteers are needed throughout the season. Please see Justine Reed as to where your talents may be best utilized. Organizing recreational activities such as the annual picnic or parade, posting announcements, assisting with newsletters, cleaning the studio, and helping with art projects are just a few examples of where we need additional support. Students and parents, please volunteer! Eatonville Dance Center is dedicated to instruct, encourage, and coach each student in the art of dance and music appreciation. However, EDC reserves the right to refuse instruction to students for any reason whatsoever. If you have any questions, please call Eatonville Dance Center at (360) 832-5555.
